Reflective Essay
A Personal network is a group you belong to and chat with people, where different people online share interests, ideas, or activities. The friends and classmates that your with at school, and are with is your school network. The people you live with, and your relatives, basically your family, make up your family network. The people you chat with on Facebook or MySpace is your online social network. Some examples on social networks are, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, your cell phone, blogs, and e-mail. I like that you get to customize your space on the internet however you want, and that you can set it on private to only share with your friends. I don’t like that there are dangerous people that can threaten you. I also don’t like that people like to be mean, and bully on social networks.
The good thing about being on a social network is that you can stay in touch with friends, and family in different states. I like that you can share pictures, and chat on social networks. I spend about an hour on the computer everyday, unless I’m busy with sports or homework. I normally am busy every night going to basketball or football games. I spend way less time than that guy that couldn’t get off the computer in the short video.
Some people misuse the internet, and social networks by just being mean on “Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter.” They put people down; by calling them mean names and cyber bullying them. They act differently online, because they feel like they can say anything they want. I think the people who say mean things on social networks/the internet are not as scared as the child’s parents when they’re online chatting. Most think they can just delete the mean comments, and conversation, just to look innocent and act like nothing even happened.
I would tell my friend being bullied, to block the person and tell their parents about what the cyber bully is saying to them. If my friend didn’t tell, I would tell an adult about the situation. I would make sure someone knew about the bullying because, if it went on too long, my friend might get too angry, and start believing the posts and try harming them. Some things that make me feel “okay” on social networks and the internet are, when everyone is nice to each other. I like when everyone knows how to behave on the internet, and act responsible.
I learned many things about social networks. People like to bully on them, and some know what’s right and wrong. They are important to me because they help me stay in touch with my cousins, and friends in other states. It will be more advanced, with classes online and teachers and students having shared social networks. Hopefully in the future people will be more mature on the internet/social networks.
